A December to Remember
As the year winds down, we’re cranking up the festive vibes! This month’s newsletter is packed with everything you need to sleigh the season (yes, we went there): a dazzling social calendar, gift ideas that wow without breaking the bank, and real talk in our new advice column.
Pour some cocoa, put on your coziest sweater, and let’s make this holiday season the merriest yet. Let's get it! 🌟
There's nothing better than seeing a highly anticipated (and expensive) film exceed expectations! Wicked, the hit broadway musical, has finally made it to the big screen, and it's everything we could have hoped for (and more). Hold my pinky, Ariana-I have lots of feelings.
Originally announced in 2012, Wicked has seen many delays in its journey to film. Director Jon Chu emphasized the use of some practical magic-that is, elaborate and dynamic physical sets. From hydraulic set pieces that set Glinda's dorm in motion, to a whopping 9 million tulips planted in what would be Munchkinland, no expense was spared in this lofty (yet highly successful) attempt to bring all of Oz to life.
The film version of Wicked cast a wide net, welcoming a broader audience than ever before without alienating its cult following. Shout out to Ari who personally championed Popular staying true to its original form (the idea had been floated to add R&B and hip hop influences to the track). Steven Schwartz of the original musical returned for the film to lend his musical talents once again-bringing us updated versions of old favorites.
The story itself has so many layers-after all, we're hearing the "Wicked" Witch's side of the story. What, on the surface, is a tale about witches and wizards and talking animals, is also a story of friendship, prejudice, and corruption. Wicked complicates the binary of good and evil, challenging viewers to think critically, question authority, and defy gravity.
For The Table
Tis the season to INDULGE! Comfort food is so cozy, especially when shared with those we love most. The Mane Team has curated some recipes that are bound to make this holiday dinner one for the books! From kitschy melted snowman candies to delectable meatballs (Grandma is not going to stop talking about them), your belly is about to be as full as your heart
It's the season of giving, and if you're like us...you still have gifts to check off your list. No gift is as special as the one that comes from the heart- whether it's made or bought. We've got some ideas if you'd like to hand craft your gifts, no matter your level of artistic ability! Prefer to shop around for something unique to your loved one? Check out these local small businesses for gifts you won't find anywhere else!
